GSB’s Christine Beirne Receives Women of Excellence Award

Beirne, GSB’s EVP, Chief Talent and Culture Officer, was honored at the Shoreline Chamber’s 8th Annual Women of Excellence Awards Luncheon on Aug. 22

GSB is proud to announce employee Christine Beirne was honored as a Woman of Excellence at the Shoreline Chamber’s 8th Annual Women of Excellence Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, August 22. Beirne, Executive Vice President, Chief Talent and Culture Officer, is one of 6 women honored at this year’s event.

“We are tremendously proud of the work that Christine has done for our bank, our team, and the communities we serve,” said GSB President & CEO, Tim Geelan. “Christine is thoughtful, professional, a collaborator, and dedicated to continuous improvement individually and organizationally. As a leader of our human resources team, she has helped increase our talent pool in acquisition, development, and retention. Notably, she has been a champion of continually developing our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.”

Beirne has been a part of the GSB community since 2012, when she joined our HR team. She is a driving force in meeting and achieving annual operating and longer-term strategic objectives for GSB.

Beirne, the daughter of Irish immigrants, is proud of her parents’ heritage and of being a first-generation American. She and her husband Brian have lived in Madison for more than 25 years, where they raised their two now-adult children. Beirne proudly served as a Girl Scout leader for over a decade and taught religious education at St. Margaret’s Church. She became active in the Exchange Club of Madison in 2014 and was president from 2021-2022. Beirne has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the E.C. Scranton Library since 2019, serving as their Governance Chair and a member of their audit committee.

After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree from Fordham University, Beirne is a 2021 graduate of the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking and received a Cornell University Certificate in Diversity and Inclusion in the same year. She holds several professional certifications in human resource management, including Senior Certified Professional from the Society for Human Resources Management.

The person who nominated Beirne said she should be among the Women of Excellence in 2022 because “both professionally and personally, she makes everyone around her a better person.”
